Did you ever leave a place thinking, “This is great. I’ve got to get back here!”?

That was my feeling as we ran from the living room of the LeRoux Creek Inn. We writers were hustling through the light rain to reach the van that would get us to Grand Junction Airport in time for our connection to Denver International.

Just five rooms comprise the LeRoux Creek Inn. It feels much more like a home than a commercial hostlery.

A Brief Visit to LeRoux Creek Vineyard and Inn
Did you ever leave a place thinking, “This is great. I’ve got to get back here!”?

That was my feeling as we ran from the living room of the LeRoux Creek Inn. We writers were hustling through the light rain to reach the van that would get us to Grand Junction Airport in time for our connection to Denver International.

Just five rooms comprise the LeRoux Creek Inn. It feels much more like a home than a commercial hostlery. I suppose it is a home; though owners Joanna and Yvon Gros actually live next door. Their website describes the place as a “New Southwest Style Adobe Inn,” which sounds reasonable to me, even though my Southwestern experience has been formed mostly by movies and magazines. Actually, the place felt like Provence and a visit to their website confirmed that Joanna and Yvon think that, too. Much of the garden seems to be suited for an arid climate, yet flowers are all around the wooden deck that looks out to the Yvon’s vineyard. Never have I seen more hummingbirds than on that morning of our departure.

Breakfast was wonderful. Yvon is a trained chef and also does dinners at the Inn by prearrangement when the group is six people or more. His young vineyards are just now beginning to produce a crop from which he will make his own wine.

The LeRoux Creek Inn is obviously in part Colorado’s wine country. Located just outside Hotchkiss and near Paonia, it’s not too far from some of the state’s famed ski areas and definitely worth a visit (www.lerouxcreekinn.com).
