NAPA, Calif., /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Two French students, visiting wineries and wine professionals around the world as a benefit for needy children in third world countries, arrived in Northern California's famed Napa and Sonoma wine country on October 3rd. Erwan Thill, 26, and Stanislas Rocoffort de Vinniere, 27, began their tour, dubbed "Vins des Globes" in China, April 11th this year on behalf of Partage, an international children's charity. Their goal is to collect bottles of wine from 500 wineries around the world and offer the collection for auction after completion of the trip, December 23rd. The auction will take place at the Hotel Drouot in Paris.
The students' other objective is to observe and review winemaking methods in different wine regions. They are also visiting to study wine's place in different cultures, by meeting importers, distributors, sommeliers, wine writers. France-based Oeneo Bouchage is the primary sponsor of the "Vins des Globes" tour along with numerous other France-based groups providing a combination of cash and/or in-kind donations.
In addition to China, Thill and de Vinniere have already visited wineries and wine professionals in Japan, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Chile and Argentina and have already collected 300 bottles of wine. In the U.S., plans are to visit approximately 40 wineries in California and New York State and 40 wine professionals before continuing travels to Canada and England. Northern California wineries participating in the students' tour and which will be donating bottles of wine include Chateau Potelle, Cosentino Winery, Hanna Winery, Kenwood Winery, Kunde Estate, Mi Sueno Winery, Paradise Ridge, Peterson Winery, among others.
According to Oeneo Closures USA Eric Mercier, the company's involvement in the project stems from the goodwill nature of the tour as well as the company's interest in the methods and needs of winemakers worldwide.
"We worked with Erwan and Stanislas to help them understand our business approach that there is no one closure that suits all wines," said Mercier. "Both students believe in a resource that provides a toolbox of closure options to suit winemakers' assorted winemaking styles and varietals. We offer the new Supercritical CO2 Diam composite wine closures; a screw cap option, the S-Cap; and we offer an all natural cork, so that we don't push and justify only one closure for every winemaking need. As we understand it, Erwan and Stanislas will be surveying winemakers about the appeal of that approach."
Erwan and Stanislas visited CEPAS, a local Partage partner in Southern Chile, and reported, "We were delighted to see the happy children. Thanks to the generosity of patrons and donors, there are places like CEPAS where children can get much-needed help. It was very motivating to see that funds were being put to excellent use."
Partage was originally created in 1973 to provide aid to young victims of the Vietnam War. Today Partage runs over 30 programs in 19 countries, providing long-term assistance to more than 13,000 children in need. The organization is funded mostly by private donors.
