Don Sebastiani & Sons Named American Winery of the Year
SONOMA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 19, 2005--Don Sebastiani & Sons International Wine Negociants has been named American Winery of the Year by Wine Enthusiast Magazine.

The magazine's annual Wine Star Awards recognize outstanding success stories in nine wine categories and one spirits category. Don Sebastiani & Sons was one of only two U.S. companies to win a Wine Star Award for 2005.

"We are honored to be selected as American Winery of the Year," said Donny Sebastiani, marketing director. "We are blessed with a talented core of employees who really made this happen. While we have a reputation for being wine marketers, our success is a direct reflection of the people who drive our business and it certainly would not have been possible without our exceptionally skilled winemaker, Richard Bruno."

Don Sebastiani and his two sons, Donny and August, established the firm in 2001, with a goal of making high-quality, moderately priced wines, trading up from their family's history of generics and jug wines. The company established a state-of-the-art winery in Napa Valley where, along with their flagship brands Pepperwood Grove and Smoking Loon, they make such wines as Screw Kappa Napa, Mia's Playground, Fusee, le bon vin de la Napa Valley and Aquinas Napa Valley. All wines in the portfolio use alternative wine closures, making Don Sebastiani & Sons one of the first large American wineries to eschew the use of the traditional tree bark cork. The company also has its own direct sales and marketing division -- The Other Guys.

Since its inception, Don Sebastiani & Sons has increased its number of employees by 900%. Case production and sales exceeded one million in 2004 and is projected to reach approximately 1.5 million cases by the end of 2005.

Don Sebastiani & Sons is a family-owned wine negociant firm specializing in the marketing of upscale, but moderately priced varietal wines. Principals Don Sebastiani and sons, Donny and August, are third and fourth generation California vintners and wine merchants. The company is headquartered in the Sonoma Valley and has a winery in the Napa Valley. In 2005, Don Sebastiani & Sons will make wine from throughout California for the portfolio that includes Aquinas Napa Valley, Pepperwood Grove, Impact Hot Brand Smoking Loon, Fusee, Mia's Playground, and Screw Kappa Napa, which was recently named one of the Hottest Small Brands of 2004 by Wine Business Monthly.
