Every Week for Four Years
Those readers who receive our weekly newsletter may note that the e-mailed issue of 5 January, 2006 is number 208. At 52 weeks per year, that must mean the newsletter is celebrating four years of publication. In that time, two of those weekly issues were late. The big-name outfit that does our e-mailing experienced technical troubles on those occasions. Otherwise, every Thursday for the last four years we’ve delivered our product between 10 and 11 am Pacific Time. In the ephemeral world of internet publishing that’s a pretty good record.
The decision to create a regular newsletter came after www.californiawineandfood.com had already existed for about a year, so we’re really celebrating the conclusion of five years and the beginning of the sixth year of that publication. As our audience evolved, we realized that we had readers who belonged to two distinct—and ordinarily separate—groups. Rather than try to devise a Solomon-like editorial policy that would fit both trade and consumer audiences, we began a separate publication a couple of years ago that addresses the interests and needs of the consumer, www.tastecaliforniatravel.com.
Actually, most of our readers (site visitors) aren’t subscribers to the newsletter at all. They may be regulars who just type in our URLs, or those who access the sites from search engines. However, in striving to preserve our only slightly blemished record of timely newsletter production and
delivery, we’ve assured that all of the readers of our publications have access to new editorial every week.

Much of the credit for our consistency is due Beth Bridges, our webmaster. She has done magnificent work under conditions less than optimal. Also, our publications have been the beneficiaries of some excellent writing and we’re thankful for the many talented scribes who’ve graced our electronic pages these several years. In 2006 we’ll do our best to continue bringing you lively views of wine, food and travel.
