Napa, CA - - The American Chapter of the Court of Master Sommeliers has announced their 2006 schedule of programs for wine and service professionals. The Court was established to encourage improved standards of beverage knowledge and service in hotels and restaurants. Education was then, and remains today, the Court's charter.

Doug Frost of Kansas City, holder of
both Master Sommelier (MS) and
Master of Wine (MW) designations,
is a prominent member of the
Court of Master Sommeliers.

The Introductory Sommelier Course/Exam, which is the first step in the four-tiered process of earning a Master Sommelier Diploma, will be offered in fourteen cities across the US and Canada. Locations include: Honolulu, HI; Aspen, CO; San Francisco and Napa, CA; Jackson, WY; Palm Beach and Orlando, FL; Las Vegas, NV; Dallas, TX; and Charlottesville, VA. The Court will also conduct courses in Toronto and Ottawa, Canada and San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The Court has introduced a new tier in its examination series, the Certified Sommelier Exam. The objective of this new level is to set a minimum standard of service and knowledge for the Hospitality Industry and to provide students with credentials to show employers their skills have been evaluated at a high level of proficiency by the world's leading authority on service - The Court of Master Sommeliers.

The Certified Sommelier Exam is a one-day exam with three portions: a written exam, a blind tasting, and a service exam. The written exam covers fundamental questions about the world of beer, wine, spirits and service. The blind tasting follows the Master Sommelier tasting method but has been tailored into a written format. The service exam tests one of the following skill sets: Standard Wine Service, Champagne Service or Decanting Service. Candidates must pass the Introductory Sommelier Exam before taking the Certified Sommelier Exam.

The Master Sommelier Advanced Course/Exam, the third step in attaining the Master Sommelier diploma, will be offered three times in the US this year at locations in Anaheim, CA; Cincinnati, OH and San Francisco, CA.
