André Saphy - French Editor

Born in 1931 on a small farm in the Southwest of France, he grew up enjoying Gascony's fine, but simple, country cooking. No wonder he developed early into a "fin gourmet." Having lost his father in the war, he became the "man of the house" at just 13 years old and his mother entrusted him with the selection of the wines for their table.

He received his high school baccalaureate in Villeneuve-sur-Lot in 1950.and continued his education at the University of Bordeaux.

After emigrating to the U.S. in 1972, and reuniting with his older sister when he settled in Sacramento, California, he became an American citizen in 1978. André retired in 1993, and though too old to play Rugby anymore, he has plenty of time for tennis, tending his rose bushes and concocting--à la française--his favorite dishes with the wines of California.

But then, he does miss his beloved confits de canard!
